ments; No. 1 is for beginners from
6 years or more and are taught
the first three grades. Pupils come
one hour each day. This is no kin
dergarten system but far superior.
In No. 2 the grades are from 5 to
16. Here they graduate. , Pupils
take one or two lessons a week as
they desire. No scholars will be
permitted to remain in this school
who do not study.

AN AMERICAN MARITHON RACE

Chicago, III. June 50. In connection
with the championship games which are
held here today under the auspices of the
A. A. U.. a Marathon r dee will be run
this afternoon. Nearly two score runners
are centered for the event, among them
some of the best amateur long distance
runners of the United States and Canada.
The start will be made on Sheridan Road
near Evar.ston and the finish will be st
Marshall Field, where several laps of the
trac k will be run in full vie of the audi
ence witnessing the championship games.
A fine cup will be given the winner and
trophies to the first six to ' finish. Fancy
diamond medals will be given to the first
two. .
SPECIAL RATE
The O. R. & N. ' Co. have made a
special rate of one and one third fare
90cts for the round trip to Elgin and re
turn on July 6th, . Pioneer day. Ample
accommodations will be provided for a
crowd. The train will leave here
promptly at 9;1 5 and will return at 6

Ottawa, Ont., June 30 The annual
meet of the Royal Canadian Golf Associ
ation opened this morning on the links
of the Ottawa Golf Club with the inter
provincial match between teams of twelve
representing Ontario and Quebec. The
conditions are eighteen holes, match play.
The meet lasts six days and there will be
interesting and team contests every day
excepting Sunday. The open champion
ship, 36 holes medal play, open to all
amateuisand professionals, will come
off on Friday of next v. eak
