E. O. L. H. Russell is entertaining Mr. J. W. Alpine, of Milwaukee and Mr. Geo. C. Aid rich, of Chicago, who are looking over our valley. Mrs. S. R. Haworth, and daughter Dortha left this morning to visit her sis ter Mrs. Geo. Humprey, near Leap Wal lowa county. J. E. Craddick arrived in the city this morning from Spokane and will spend a few days visiting his uncle, J. M. Crad dick of this city. Rev. and Mrs. O. H.King left last even ing for Turner Oregon where they will attend the state meeting of the Christian church of Oregon. B. A. Benham returned last evening from an extended drive through the val ley with Mr. Baker of New York who is thinking of locating hra Messrs Geo. Parr of the Dalles and E. J. Parr of Visalia California, drove through the valley yesterday looking over its prospects. They were accompanied by J. Ireland. C. C, Fraiser and son whi are now living in Southern California returned this morning to look after business inte rests a short time. Cards are out announcing the wedding of Miss Cora Grace Harding and Mr. Benjamine W. Scott, to take place in the Methodist church on June 27. Garret Oldenberg is in the city looking over fruit growers' prospects in this vicin ity. He is now connected with the Fruit Growers' Union in Jakima. Misses Queeme Shilling and Alvertia Gates, leave tonight for Portland to spend a few weeks visiting friends, from there they go to Astoria and other points on the sea side to spend the summer months. Messers Aldrich and Alpine of Chicago are spending a few days in the Grande Ronde valley with a view of buying real estate here. Both ate land owners in Michigan but since seeing Oregon's opp ortunities they have concluded to locate here. Hon. S. O. Swackhammer passed through this city this morning enroute home from Portland where Mrs. Swackhammer is receiving medical treat ment. Her many friends in this city will be pleased to learn that she is regain ing her former health. THE GREAT SUBURBAN HANDICAP tScrlpps News Association) New York June 2'. The great subur ban Handicap , one of the greatest events of the New Y irk racing season and worth $20,000 to the winner, will be run this afternoon on the the Sheepshead Bav race course. Although many of the sixty horses originally entered for the event have been withdrawn, amona them some fam ous horses, Hermis, Artful, Von Tromp, First Water, Nathan Hale and ProDoser there is still a large field for the famous race.
