The ladies of the Lyle Tuesday Musical will give their annual reception Tuesday evening. June twelfth at their club rooms. A litnitod number of invitations will be extended, each member being allowed two guests. The regular meeting of the Aid Society of the Presbyterian Church was held at the home of Mrs. F. E. Moore yesterday afternoon, the time was spent in pieceing a quilt. Sheriff Johnson and Sheriff-elect Childers returned from Salem this morn ing. R. C. Worstell returned this, morning after completing his first year- work in the O. A. C. at Oarvallis G.ain tacks art quoted at ten cents this it the highest for years. Almost equivalent to five cents per bushel. Forrest Ivanhoe returned last evening from Corvallis where hi has been attend ing the Oregon Apricultural college the past year., ,;, Mr. and Mrs. J. McDonald, Dr. Gregg and Wm. McKinzie all of Wallowa are in the city in business connected with the Land Office. Attorney J. S. Hodgins of Enterprise passed through the city last evening on hit way, to Portland . where he will at tend the Masonic Grand Lodge. Jack Hills and family of Wallowa County will return to their home near Lostine tomorrow after spending a few days visiting relatives and friends. E. Moormeister the breweryman from Enterprise transacted business .in the city last evening and caljed on Julius Roech of this city. F. L. Meyers cashier of the La Grande Natioal Bank left last evening, for Port land where he will attend the first annual convention of the Oregon State Bankers Association. . . Mr. Ralston, a newspaperman of South Dakota who is looking over the Mount ains with a view of locating is a La Grande visitor today. We acknowledge a very pleasant call from the gentleman. Mr. and Mrs.W. H. Bohnenkamp and Miss Bessie left last evening to attend Masonic Grande Lodge. Mrs. Bohnen kamp is Worthy Matron of the Hope Chapter No. 9 Eastern Star, of this city. J. K. Lantz, secretary of the Fruit Growers Union, of the Cove came over last night to meet Mr. Holcomb, of the Oregon Packing Company, to arrange for the purchase of the cherry crop of their section of the country. Grand Secretary Brauer of the Forest ers lodge is here from Portland and will be present at the meeting which has been called for the local lodge of Foresters at their hall tonight. A big feed is planned and all Foi esters are requested to be present. E. G. Adcook has leased the store rooms formerly occupied by the La Grande Cash Store and Bakers Brothers on corner Elm street and Adams Avenue, and will move his furniture store to these rooms. He has taken possession and will soon have his goods in the new quarters. Local fishermen are returning from the various streams and report having had good success. Union county fishing can not be excelled in the state.
