Weatherby of Seattle arrived in the city last evening and will spend a month visiting at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jones. Mr. Geo. L. Cleaver and Rev. J. D. Gillilan leave Monday morning for Salem, to be present at the annual meeting of the trustees of the Willamette Unversity Misses May brenhoitz and Urace Swan, teachers in the pub ic schools here, re turned to their homes in Mount Pleasant Iowa, this morning. They will spend the summer vacation in the East. Blake, formerly of thl place now of Baker City, is a welcome visitor among old friends. Mr. Seigrist, of Lewiston, Idaho, was here several days tuning pianos for his old customers, who are always glad to see him return. Miss Louie Wade returned to Enter prise after a ten days visit with relatives. Miss Pearl of Hoquiam. Wash., is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Goedeker. Mr.F. H. Kiddle is on a business trip tg California. Miss Zoe Bragg, of La Grande, visited at W. G. Hunter's home Sunday. The dinner and supper given by the ladies of Island City and vicinity on election day was a complete success in every detail, and the good time enjoyed on that day will be long remembered by those in attendance. The receipts were about one hundred and sixteen dollars. The ladies wish to thank the people for their patronage. Tason ue On Friday, of next week the remains of Rev. Jason Lee. colonizer of Oregon and founder of Willamette University will be re-interred at Salem. He died in 1845 in Canada and till now his remains rested there. Last year they were brought to Portland by President J. H. Coleman and now on the campus of the great in stitution he founded, they will be finally deposited. Rev. Abraham Eads of this cty is one of the honorary pallbearers. CATHOLIC CEMETERY Bids for the improve ent of the Cath olic Cemetery are hereby invited and will be received up to the 20th of June. This improvement will include the making of a driveway around the entire grave-yard the removal of weeds and all othe; re fuse from the cemetery grounds. Ryder, manager of the Elgin baseball team, was in the city this morn ng completing arrangments whereby the La Grande ball team is to play sev eral games in Elgin during the Fourth of July celebration. In speaking of the game next Sunday. Manager Ryder stat ed that judging from present indications, a record-breaking Elgin delegation would attend the game. RASCH KINSEY. One of the first of the June weddings in Baker City, was that of Miss Harriet Kinsey and Mr. Fred A. Rasch of Port land. The bride is one of Baker's most popular and beautiful young ladies and well known in La Grande having spent, her childhood here, her Father being one of the pionaers. The wedding was pre formed in the Presbyterian church which was beautiful decorated in greens and flowers, lillies and carnations being used in profussion on the platform and altar, banking the organ with the same. Preceding the wedding march Miss Gertrude Tice sang in her rich contralto " Pro-nise Ma" and as M W Anna Ms Kay played the wedding march the bridal party fdvancej. fcq the altar. The brde on her father's arm met the groom and his best man, Mr. Grover Rasch at the altar. The ring ceremony was used by Rev. J.
