A good story is told of a La Grande teamster who one; Sunday morning not moons ago rode hie horse to the sewer which flows through the city, to drink, the horse did not favor the proposition. and refused to drink. The rider thumped protruding rib a time or two with his boot heel, never thinking that the faithful animal would retaliate in any way but the unexpected happened. " By"' a" sudden movement the" horse sent the ride r tl wards, an when he returned to.: earth he "made a noise" like he had' been hunting for something in the bottom of the tewer. When he crawled out the horse was taking advantage of the time offered and was rapidly feeding upon the grass which grew near the sewer. Those who wit nessed the "high dive" are authority for the statement that the horse seemed te haye had the more enjoyable time of the two. . TO OUR PATRONS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC We take pleasure in announcing that the La Grande National Bank has been designated by the United States Govern ment as a Depository for Government or Public funds. This is gratifying to ourselves and should be to our patrons, as it marks another mile stone in the growth antf prosperity of our city. At this time we desire to thank the Public for their liberal patronage in the past and to assure them that in the future he will endeavor to giva them the best service that lies within our power.. F.
