TRIAL AGAIN POSTPONED
The case of the State versus John R.
Guilliam was postponed today because of
the absence of the principal witness for
the prosecution, D. A. Webb, The de
fendant was arrested at Pendleton and
has been lodged in jail here since that
time awaiting trial. Several 'Witnesses
appeared against him this afternoon
but on motion District Attorney Craw
ford, the trial was postponed until Friday
at 10 o'clock.
BAILEY RESENTS STORIES

Washington, May 1 6 Senator Bailey,
n a speech to the Senate declared that
the dispatch to western newspapers say
ing that he is secretly opposed to railroad
rate legislation, was an unqualified, mali
cious and a deliberate lie. He stated
further that some correspondent close to
the White House had furnished the in
formation, continued with saying, "He Is
an unqualified, malicious and deliberate
liar, and I don't care how high a station
or what office he holds." Tillman jumped
to the floor at this and demanded the
entire story be read. - During the read
ing, the Southern senator faced his study.
The story held Tillman up to scorn and
ridicule as a ' senator, who by stealth,
sought an indirect interview with the
President, after the dinner invitation had
been withdrawn. Tillman then counted
eight falsehoods in the article, and said
he had. never lost faith in Bailey, and
quoted the President by saying that the
correspondent was a ''Muck raker" '
Bailey arose and said that he had de
nounced the story printed in the New
York morning papers. Bailey continued,
"among all newspaper correspondents,
most are honorable as senators, but there
are two cuckoo scribes to the papers.
The suspicion arose as the story proceed
ed from the White House. I hope the

ators are not slandered. The man who
wrote it is a miserable wretch and no
miltar how high a position he holds, 1
will do all in my power to dislodge him.''

Quite a new and novel feature was the
pantomine given by Mrs. Brenholts. The
lights were very effective and gave a
beautiful glow to the scene which was
given in tableau.
The program was carried . out in a
most interesting way and reflects great
credit to those in charge and those
assisting.
