THE CHRISTIAN 1 t v. ' ' , ' - , X . ' , I i! 4 sr ( " " 1 ,:V . '. 1h it u ; - . ; K "THE CHRISTIAN" f: f " Mr. Caine undortook the dramatiiaticr. of "The Christian" himself. As he was more familiar with the eharasters than anyone else, he consequently has given to the world the greatest dramatization of the book that eould be nude. His Glory Cuay'e, lovable and willful. U the same as evor, but John Storm, who is almost a relig;ous fanatic in the book, is a, more reasonabla and attractive character in the ply. Among the many stirring, soul lifting, blood-curdling situations' in "The Christian" non3 will bo found of greater strangth than tne one wherein Storm eiitars the apartment of Glory, and bids har prc-pdre (or doath. as lp intends to niurdur her to keep her from the contam ination of tie world. . He warns her to say her prayers, and he encircles hor throat wi-l his hands, and is cn the poi.it str ngling.hur when thtw nan's buck w,. saves her life. In feverish anxiety and impassioned speech the young and beautiful girl reminds him of thei childhood love for one another, and so wjrks upon his mind that he relinquishes his purpose. Another scene of dramatic genius is where a mob attempts to cap ture the villain, but are held back by John Storm and brother Paul. Through-' out the play the attention of the audience 9 rivited upon the stage, and never for a moment does the interest lag. Glory Quayle will be impersonated by the beautiful Lillian Lawrence, and John Storm by John Sainpolis. In Steward's opera house, Thursday, May 5d. Prices .60.'.75, 1.00 and 1.50. GAVE GOOD SHOW The Ideals opened at the theater for a two weeks' run last night, and their open ing bill, "A Fight for Honor," was pleas ing to the large audience present The members of the troop give atssoith a performance as any stock torn any seen here this season and will probably play to crowded houses during their engage ment. "A Fight for Honor"' is a melodrama but it is one wherein comedy and pathos are intermixed in a way that pleases. Oliver J. Eckhardt, the actor-manager never failed to create a laugh while he was on the stage in his character of Sandy Walker the hobo. W. P. Richard son, who played the lead, met with the approval of the aud ience, ard his eccen tric dancing specialty brought for him a hearty round of applause. Herbert Foster, the heavy, was hissed by the "gods." which showed that he made good. Blanche Marlin, the widow's daughter, was also pleasing, while the sympathy of the audience was with Isabel R. Perry who played the supposed widow Georgia Nicholas and Dorald Blanchard. well Walla Walla Statesman f . y V v ' -.v 1 A - ' '' . 1 ' ' ' ' ; DRIC STORE TAIK What you think will be good for your own ail ments or the ailments of your family can be se cured from our large stock of proprietary med icines.
