Ryan of Oregon City one of the most promine.it candidates for tht Republican nominator! as state treas urer, it in the city today greeting old friends and making new acquaintances. He has visited irostof the citiss of the state and is quite sanguine of his success in securing the nomination. In an inter view he says: "While I recognize the fact that Mr, Hoyt and Mr. Carter with their bank connections are formidable oppon ent, I have found a very strong senti ment among the business men, farmers and laborer in opposition to putting the fund of the state in control of banking corporations, they appearing to think a business man with a good record for sat isfactory work as a public officer the one they favor for the office." This record udge Ryan certainly ha earned an officer of Oregon City and Clackamas county. :, - NOTICE KORPCULICAuON DEPARTMENT OF TUB INTERIOR, J. 8. Land Office. They held a meeting of baseball follower the other evening and raised four hundred dollar before tht session broke up. That is coming to th front with th money, and if financial support will insure a good team, then our neighbors will be right up in the front rank when th (eason ends. It is possible that Elgin will play here a week from Sunday. A delegation of Island City athletes cam over yesterday trying to make ar rangements for a track and field meet in the near future. No date was decided upon but the meet is certain. The High School boy are taking advantage of the nice weather this week by putting in some good practice work. Coach Williams ha considerable material with which to work, and if the boys take the necessary in terest, there i no reason why a winning team cannot be turned out. The baseball management has received a letter from the manager of the Yellow Kids, taying they want to play La Grande at Athena on the twenty-tecond. How ever this is too early for th La Crande team to get into any shape at all, and the date will have to be postponed for a week at least. Two weeks after the twenty-second should ee the team in shape, ' and after tnac aaw u ment will be pleased to book any dates. Tomorrow will be practice day again and fans can get an eye on th new material that has come in the past week. TACTS DT NATURE. Wot Only Do We ot Inaptratitm Trot Mature, But HaaJUt aa Well.
