Davis. 1216 Adams Ave. 1 ((MM! on asm rail THE SCOUT MAN VISITS THE (AMP AND fINDS AC TIVE OPERATIONS hursday of this week a reporter; the Scout visited the point where grading is in progress for the Central Railway. A week ago work began at the southwest corner of the S. E. Miller ndby tonight the grade-will be completed to the north side of the Conley ranch or about one fourth of the distance that will be required to grade the road bed from the town of Union to the Cove. This is no temporary job of work as the workmen are putting the grade in shape for the ties and iron which will follow within a short time. The forces are only fairly organized and yet a little over two miles were graded the first six days. Mr. TV"'. r"'fr. u Kaeiea ' nf that work is a practical all around railroad man, served many years as boss of con struction gangs and is thoroughly equipped for his part of the work. The road bed is being prepared in the finest possible shape and nothing is being left undone which will add to the efficiency of the service when all is completed. J. E Fiynn, a railroad construction man of many years experience, when questioned by a Scout reporter concerning the work said: "Those people mean business and this road will be bujlt without delay." Mr Davidson, who has charge of the work is a man thoroughly reliable and the work THE LAST MD-t An event unprecedented in the anna's of the Northwest and possibly unequalled in the history of the great West will take place in Douglas county, between the 22d and 24th of April. The horses are known as mustang ponies. They have been put In this country during the 1 past SO years by horsemen and have reached about the number stated. TO REPUBLICAN VOTERS I hereby announce myself as a' candi date for nomination for District Attorney for Wallowa and Union counties subject to the primary election to be held on April 20, 1906. Unlike the candidate whose yellow circular was issued a few days ago, 1 have not been put up by any committee, but am presenting myself, the same as the candidate referred to and the other candidates are doing. , , ! .. , Joseph F. Mr. Flynn is a man who can speak with auth ority on such matters owing to his thor ough knowledge of them. There are rumors that the new road is only a branch of the Northern Pacific, but no solid foundation can be found for them. When questioned concerning them Mr. Davidson was positively non-committal and the Scout as well as its readers, must still remain in doubt as to who is really behind the road and what places it wilt connect with and what ones leave out One thing is an absolute certainty; work is in act ual progress ar.d we have no doubt will be hurried through to completion.- rose ibly the Scout has not at all times seemed as friendly as it should have to the pro ject and has said some thing that might well have been left unsaid.. There ' were many time during the past few months that the evident needles delay in starting the wsrk caused u to lose faith In the whole reject Now, however, having in vestigate! the matter as fully as is with in our power to and being fully convinced that the road will be built whatever its final effect we hnll aid, encourage and further its Interests in every possible way.
