Minn., recently expressed himself as follows In relation to the value of sugar tops for feeding cattle: "The cream of the beets . in the tops, the sugar is in tlie bottom. Mixing the cream with the the sugar make a lovely cup of coffee. I am highly pleased with beet tops as feed, and my cows are more so than myself. If I offer them anything else than beet tops they turn their heads I will give the exact figures on 20 head of cows for six days in 1904, when I was feeding good corn stalks and grain. "On Nov. 22, 1504,1 told 502 pounds of milk; November 24, 298 pounds; November 26. 276 pounds, making a total pounds for six days. "On Nov. 22, 1905, 1 sold 642 pounds of milk; November 25, 642 pounds; making a total of 1,657 pounds, from the same number of cows, and they have net had a thing but sugar beet tops since the first of October, and they are still getting there, living on beet tops at this writing, I consider this a big profit whan cheese i high, as I figure that 1 can afford to grow sugar beets, for the cowr,, a they come at a time of year when the cows need a succulent food to finish up the year with a good flow of - milk, and when I get out of the beets is nearly all profit. 1 am highly pleased with the sugar beet crop, and as sugar is one of the necessaries of life and one of the staple products, I am in the business to stay andean hpnestly recommend it to my neighbor and fellow farmer a a good and profitable crop, and a small patch of beet will not hurt any man" WATER USERS U1CRLASE STOCK Hermieton, Ore., Feb. 9. The East Umatilla Water Users' association . will hold a meeting March 1 0 when the stock will be increased from 9000 to 20,000 shares. The increase will raise the capi talization to $1,200,000. Great preparations are being made for the meeting and a large gathering is ex pected. The association was organized to work in conjunction with the govern ment in carrying on it large irrigation project in Umatilla county. ' Old maid would be scarce and hard to find.
