Stoddard, who were recently married in Salt Lake City, by Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Nibley, parents of the bride. The evening wat spent in pleasant conversation and delicious re freshments were served. "at home" Yesterday afternoon about forty ladies were delightfully entertained at the home of Mrs. J. J. Carr on 2d. street Cards furnished amusement for the guests, Mrs. Cavana winning first honors, "Yolando," one of Charles Major's latest books, and Mrs. Guliing second, an etching In brown. At four o'clock the rooms were darkened, and the glow from softly shaded lights gave a very pleasing effect. Refreshments were then daintily served by the hostess, assisted by Misses Car men Stoddard and Lillian McCall, the menu consisting of three courses as fol lows: Fruit talad Nut bread sandwiches Coup Jack Five Spots - Black Coffee While no distinct color scheme was closely adhered to, the decorations of pale pink and green lent an added charm to the artistic arrangement After con gratulations ' were extended to their charming hostess upon the success of her "At home," the guests departed.' - Mrs. Wetsley Harrison gave a pretty little party for Miss Hillary of Portland, last evening at her. pleasant' home on .Fourth etreet' Progressive flinch was the amusement .for the evening. Alexander expects to leave this evening for Seattle where he will visit his son who resides there. The Captain expects to be absent about ten days or two weeks. Senator Walter Pierce passed through the city this morning oh his way .to. Hot Lake. Henderson, : will soon an nounce his candidacy for the office of diftsict attorney for Union and Wallowa counties Mr. Henderson is well known throughout the state end his friends pre dict that he will win the race. The moon will be in total eclipse begin ning at about eleven o'clock and will con tinue shady for about an hour. W. A. Hillis, representing the Peters Cartridge Co., gave a free exhibitiorfof fancy and expert rifle shooting. A num ber of gun enthusiasts attended his exhib tion and were clearly well repaid for the r time. Rev. King will speak tonight his subject being "In Christ". Jacob Newman is at the La Grande Hospital receiving medical treatment.
