This is the first contract for hewed ti.. that has been let for many years ki the oiue mountains and will employ about 60 men for the next four or five months. The tiee will be made from tamarack and red fir and it will be necessary to naui mem from two to six miles to the railroad owing to the timber alorur the track being so closely culled. The once is not made public but it is said to be under 20 cents each, . inere is sufficient timber to fill the enntneton the holdings of a naif dozen r the mountains on the east side between Hilgard and Kamela. He received his aDDointment to the academy in September, 1902. and aside from maintaining a high grade of scholar ship In the regular course of study, took an active part in athletics and other stu dent enterprises. Boxing, fencing and baseball were the forms of athletics in which he took the most interest. While on the annual cruise last summer, ha broke and held for a short time the mid shipman s record for target practice, he having made 12 hits out of 13 shots in one minute from a sir-inch gun on ship board, at a target one mile distant.
