Timm, manager of the Cleveland Baking Powder Company for the north west, is in the city today rom Walla Walla on business. L. C. Smith, who suffered a hemorr hage of the stomach, is said to be much better today and it is expected that he will soon be able to resume his duties. Q. E. Hunter, James Hackett, of Pend leton, Q. P. Koontz and Fred Wyatt of Pilot Rock are in the city today making proofs on reservation lands. . Recorder Snook states that he has on ly disposed of four dog tags for this year, as a result, owners of canines may not be surprised to find their pots in the pound at any time. f Mrs. Hattie McDonald has returned from a month's visit at Portland and other Willamette . valley points. The greater part of her time was spent visit ing her daughter, Miss Jean, who is at tending school in Portland. There will be a Christian Endeavor rally of the Endeavor societies of La Qrande at the Presbyterian church Wed- neseay evening. Rev. W. J. Sharp, field secretary of Oregon, will speak. A cord ial invitation is given to all young people to attend. Come and bring your friends. The City Grocery and Bakery is deliv ering its orders this morning with a splen did new delivery wagon. It is a beauty and the customers are proud of having it stand before their houses for even a few minutes. Joseph Richardson is resting quite easy today from the injuries received Friday night when he was swept off of a box car at Lime Spur by an ore chute which ex tended over the car. He was brought home Saturday morning. No bones were broken but Joe received quite a shaking up that will remind him of his experience f jr several days. Al Andrews left Friday evening in re sponse to a telegram stating that his mother was seriously ill at her home in East Liverpool. Ohio. A wire was re ceived here yesterday saying she was dead. Mr. Andrews could not possibly have arrived in time to have been at her badslde. SOCIETY 'A pleasant party was given last Friday evening in honor of Miss Elizabeth Fer guson at the home of her parents on O Street. ' The evening was spent in play ing games and at 1 1 o'clock refreshments were served. In one of the contest games Miss Elsie Ackles received the ladies' souvenir and Robert Shearer the gentle man's. About twenty young people were present. DAMEN-KRANZ Mrs. J. Allen, who always entertains delightfully and charms her guests anew each time- with her gracious personality' gave one of the pretty home parties of last week, Saturday afternoon, at Mr. Henry Henson's residence on North Fir Street The guests were members of the Damen-Kranz, all of whom were present, excepting two. The next meeting will be with Miss Mabel Williams and Mrs. Sherwood Williams. - The Neighborhood Club meets tomorrow afternoon. Editor and Mrs. F. Q. Conley of the Wallowa News, are in the city today the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Rounsa vell.
