An ingenious Scotchman has' made an auto that will plow and plant to grain six acres of land per day, at a cost of one dollar per acre, half of what it would have cost to plow and plant the same ground with horse power. The most hopeful thing about this machine is its cheapness, it not costing more, if as much, as the horse teams, harness and Iplows necessary to do the same amount of work in the same time, which would require six plowmen to run them, while Ana man rmtM r-, n, nt.fn ..J t. stead or trudging all day on foot in the furrow behind the plow, he could ride comfortably on a spring seat, and when he days workis over repaire to his home 1 with unsoiled shoes, if he cared to wear shoes. There i little danger in venturing a prophesy, that there are persons now living who will see the world's plowing ions by electrical power, and when the 4 . . srops thus grown, are ripe the same power will thrash, clean and haul the grain to market This change will do away-with (he millions of plow horses now kept and fed n the farms and the food for the human family will then be made with less human labor than now. It will be cheaper, and at the same time farming will be more profitable than now, and there will be fewer poorly fed men and women in the world. Improvements of this nature are often, if not always, met by opposition based on a fear that the lessening of the amount of human labor to produce a given result will throw many laborers out of employment and deprive them ol means of living, but the history of tht world does not justify the fear. Tht laborers of England when the first thresh ing machines appeared in that country. riotously burned them, but farm labor is better paid there now than then. The weavers of this country when the hand cards and hand looms were displaced bj carding machines and woolen and cotton factories run by water or steam, felt thai their, doom had coma and, death by starvation was their sentence, but there ire more and better paid weavers in the United States today than then, and our whole people are better fed and clothed than they were in the days when mother and sister power with an occasional Dutchman, made the clothing the common people wore, and the rich imported their broadcloth and shirting from Europe and country girls had Sunday dresses made of calico, to called because it first came from Calcutta, India. Every day the Observer re ceives calls for furnished rooms, rooms for light housekeeping and for houses advertised for rent through the advertis ing columns. To supply this demand some one will build a number of flats and reap a harvest by renting the rooms in suites. The cost for the erection of such a building would be far less than constructing a cottage. A large flat with four suites of rooms could be built for less than what three separate houses would cost and could be built on one lot while houses would necessarily have to be built on individual lots. There is a class of semi-transient people who cannot afford to purchase housekeeping outfit and who 'desire to remain a number of weeks or months as the case may be. If they could secure nicely furnished rooms in a pleasant location they would gladly pay a good ronl. Who will erect such a building?
