ANOiHER REPORT ; Enraka, Cal July 25 With her oap tain and crew deserting her, an un known steamer, believed to be a col lier from tbe North to San Francisco, is ashore at Cape Mendooine. It is stated that three small boats have been lannohed from the steamer and the men are at tempting to reach . the light ship stationed ot toe Cape. The vessel grounded Is up on the beach and in no danger of going to pieces. DETAILS Ban Diego, Jaly. 25 The most Im portant statement yet made as to the cause of the explosion on sue gungoat Bennington was obtained today from a machinist, by name A F Nelson, the only snrvivor ei the engineers. It will be remembered that Capt Young in his rrport on the trip made from Honolulu to San Diego stated to admiral Good rich that the boilers were not safe with a pressure exceeding 130 to 135 pounds. Nelson was in charge of the engines when the ship was ' about to leave and says: "I kept a careful watch of tbe steam gunge pressure: It went to 140, then dropped back to 130 and the engines weie turned over onoej the total pressure then was up exactly to 133, and it was at that figure the moment when the explosion occurred SUPPLY SHIPS ARRIVES The supply ship Iris arrived this morning from Mare Island with three sets of diving apparatni and four men from the submarine service to be em ployed as divers. Tbey will go down to inspect the plates of the Benning ton and determine tbe advisability of repairs.- Tbe officer now believe that the ship can . be repaired No new deaths of the victims ot tbe disaster have been reported today, but three of the injured are in a very serious condl tion.
