Mills and wife returned from a weeks visit in Portland Sun day. Mrs. Belle Wilson is attending the Teachers' Institute in Gatskanie this week. On Monday Nov. 4 our mail Route was changed and in place of the car rier going to Timber he goes over ! the mountain to Buxton. i i T. B. Mills was a Portland visitor the latter part of the week. B. F. Lane will give a big dance in his new store building on Satur day evening November 16. The Timber Orchestra has been engaged and a big time expected. Virgil Powell and G. B. Smith the well known bear trappers added another large bear to their list Friday. It weighed 325 pounds and measured 6 feet and 7 inches. A 7 1-2 mill special Tax was vot ed in Road District No. 15, Thursday. A. M. Parker and Albert Wood are attending court at St. Helens. The Railroad Surveyors have just completed their survey from Banks via Vernonia and Rock Creek to Astoria. Booth Hall returned from a two weeks visit at Rainier Thursday. N. J. Parker expects to leave in a few days for Washington where he will trap during the winter. At the Teachers' Institute, hel in Clatskanie, last week, the follow ing resolutions were adopted: Whereas, We, the teachers Columbia County, feel that we have had a most profitable and pleasan institute during the three day's sess ion which is now drawing to a close therefore, be it. Resolved, That our thanks are due to the people of the city of Clatskanie for their most cordial hospitality by throwing open thei homes to furnish accommodations, and for many acts of kindness and favors shown us during these three I days; and we wish to express our appreciation, also, to the ladies who provided for the Cordial and pleas ant reception to the teachers, which was so thoroughly enjoyed by all; Resolved, That we are highly pleased with the instructions and inspiration given us by the able speakers and instructors who par ticipated in this meeting, and that we pray the good work they are do ing may long continue; Resolved, That we congratulate our County Superintendent, upon his recent election to the import ant office of School Superintendent, and that we promise our co-opera tion in all undertakings that may be for the unbuilding of the schools of Columbia County, for the better ment of the boys and girls; Kesolved, That we thank the principal and the teachers of the Clatskanie school for their many acts Of kindness, contributing to the comfort and pleasure of this gath ering of teachers; to the trustees and members of the Presbyterian church for so generously donating the use of their splendid church for the evening meetings; and to Rev.
