C. W. Blakesley, Assessor Because he surpasses all opposing candidates in . ability, experience and qualifications for Congressman. Because all his interests are in Oregon, where he was born, and he knows her people, resources and industries. Because, he annually travels thousands of miles over the First District, learning the needs of his constituents, and has secured mill ions of dollars for their benefit, and has aided veterans, land entrymen and others. Because he has been a faithful servant of all of the people and not a favored few, and in national affairs has reached a position of in fluence so that Presidents Taft and Roosevelt, his associates of all par ties, and constituents generally praise him in terms similar to those used by Governor West, who said in an interview after a visit to the National Capital. "In intellect, or atorical ability and devotion to the interests of the people, Hawley stands head and shoulders above the great majority of the members of the National House of Representa tives." Has lost less than 25 out of over 700 cases. Columbia County has hot paid out a cent for lawyers to help him Columbia County has not lost one cent through wrong advice. Since this district has had two judges he has been doing the work of two men on the same pay. He tries all Circuit Court cases himself. He has won every criminal case tried in the Supreme Court. He has given to Columbia County all the time provided for by law . Columbia County needs more of his time but the law must be changed as it only provides for two terms a year. A good officer should always be given a second term. There is not one single good rea son why he should be defeated. He does more work than any two District Attorneys in the State. The records prove it. Ask your neighbor who has serv ed on either a petit or grand jury, about him. Ask Judge McBride, Judge Eakin or Judge Campbell about his work, or any one else who knows. what Mr. hedges has done. He was district attorney for this district 15 months just before Mr. Tongue; at a time when there was only one judge, yet he tried only three cases, one of them pleading guilty, one a mistrial and the third convicted. When he went out of office the work was so piled up that a bpecial term of Court was called to dispose of his cases. Compare the records of the two men. His defeat would be little less than a calamity to the country. And every man that votes against Bourne at the coming Pri mary will live to regret it Sunr mary of statement by Robert La Follette, Portland, April, 1912. The Senator has rendered a ser vice of which bis constituents at home are hardly aware. He has brought vividly before the people of the United States the facts connect ed with Oregon's effort to make her government really a govern ment of the people, and the way the experiment has actually worked. and there are many of the outsiders who owe Senator Bourne a very real debt of obligation for what he has done in familiarizing us with the actual workings of what you have experimented with, attempted, and done here in Oregon; and I wish to state my obligation to him for that work, and also the obligation that all of us everywhere feel to ward Oregon for what it has done in pioneering along these lines. Theodore Roosevelt, in speech at Multnomah Hotel. Sept. 11, 1912. Senator Bourne rendered splendid service to Oregon and the entire na tion. Senator Bourne deserves the votes of every loyal granger in Ore gon, and 1 believe he will not have the slightest trouble in being re turned by a good majority. C. B. '"A To the Voters of Columbia County, You are no doubt aware that my name will appear upon the ballot for the office of Sheriff of this coun ty at the coming election. As it will be impossible for me to make a personal campaign through out the county, I take this method of asking you for your support. For the past four years I have been located in St. Helens, Oregon, where anyone can tell you of my ability and charter. , If elected to the office of Sheriff, I promise to attend to the duties of office in a strict and business-like way, serving the people. I have no friends to reward and no foes to punish, but if elected I will administer the affairs of the office in a proper manner to all. There are several innovations in re gard to the management of the office 1 intend making, if elected, which I believe will be a big success and which will save the taxpayers of this county considerable money. The laws will be enforced to the extent of my ability and I feel con fident in saying that you will never regret casting your vote in my be- half. Thanking you in advance, I am.
