Allen & Felton Mr. Wilbur Muckle entertain ed the 500 Club on Tuesday even ing at her home and a most en joyable evening was spent by the Club members and a few Invited guests. Work on the county road leading around the bluff toward Warren has la-en ti-niMirari!y stoped on account of the weather. The rock encountered there was a fine quality of block pick and several thousand blocks have been made. It is prob able that these blocks will lie used for street croKsings in the city. Mr. Seth L. Rolierts, an expert accountant from Portland, haa just completed the task of experting the books of all the county officers. No report haslw-en filed by him, but from the leHt information at hand everything was found in first class condition in every office. Ijutt Sunday night two young men working at the Masten Camp became Involved in a quarrel and as a result one of them, Eric Johnson, grablied an axe and made an attack on Nels Keend, striking him in the face and inflicting a wound about four inches long. The injured man came to town where Dr. Peel dress ed the wound. A warrant was sworn out for Johnson but before the officers reached camp he had de parted for pRrts unknown. An old gentleman named Welch who recently liought a lOacre tract of land in the Yankton country, was found roaming the streets c f St. Helens late Thursday night'in a very weak condition and was given a hunk in the basement of the Court HoUNe for the night. Marshal Wilkins called a doctor and together they watched river the old gentle man all night. On Friday a physi cian from Portland arrived and took Mr. Welch to the home of his daughter in lYrtlaml. The gymnasium at t'" st r ! house was thrown ojien to the stu dents Friday night and the basket hall teams were out in full force. A run was made on the simo de partments of all the local stores Friday when nearly every student of the school was after gym shoes and it was only a short time until the entire supply of the town was exhausted and only a part of the orders filled. There will lie a game of basket ball Ik-t ween the Rainier High School and the St. Helens High School at ourgew gymnasium on Feb. 10. h t r s l Reno the famous magician, will hold forth at the City Hall next Tuesday night instead of Monday as printed on the tickets. Whereas, the State Board of Fish and Game Commiss ioners of the State of Oregon, the Board of Fish Commissioners of the State of Oregon and the United States Bureau of Fisheries have propagated and stocked, and are propagating and stocking the waters of the Willamette and Clackamas rivers, in the State of Oregon, with salmon fish: and Whereas, said streams are fre quented by salmon fish, and for the purpose of protecting the same, the said State Board of F'ish and Game Commissioners has decided to close the said Willamette river, and its tributaries, below and north of the falls thereof, at Oregon City, and all of the Clackamas river, and its tributaries, to prevent fishing therein, by tnv means whatever, except with hook and line, common ly called angling, for salmon fish. during the period of time herein afer specified.
