In the most favorable weather, con sidering the season of the year, Flag raising exercises were held outside of the school at Chapman camp, the school room being too mall to accomo date the children and those who attended the exercise. The school has thirty five pupils and ia entirely supported by the Chapman Timber Company. Able addresses were delivered by Mr. J. H. Collin Superintendent of schools for Columbia County. He was pleased to see such a thriving school with such love snd earnestness for tbeir work and the display of patriotism during; the exercises. It Wat a great credit to who ever it belonged, who supported socb a private school as not one penny waa given from tbe school funds towards its support, and the school would be a credit to any communitv. His address received the attention it deserved and was heart ily applauded at its conclusion, Mr. Hepworth spoke of tbe strenuous timet when the flag of freedom was first raised compared to present times. and it will be up to the children now attending school to maintain and even raise its standard higher, and he ex horted tbe children to alwayt have aa high standard to look up to, and they could be proud ot such men as Wash ington and Grant in the field of war, of Fnlton and Edison in the world of In ventions snd of, Lincoln and Taft in Politics. Should the treaty of arbitra. tion promulgated by Taft to arbitrate all difference between the United State and Great Britain, be they of honor or territory, be brought to a enccesfal con clusion the longest and . greatest atep will have been made towards bringing , the mlllenium to often prophesied and spoken about, as it will have a tend ency to reduce tbe non-producing stand ing aimies and navies which arc socking the life blood of powerful nations.
