Will ay THE COLUMBIA 3 COUNTY ABSTRACT t AND TRUST 1 CO. i TAXES $208,75931 The County Clerk has completed the exten sion of the tax roll, and it is in the hands of the sheriff for collection. The figures are as follows: State Us... 13616:0O School 215S6 00 Library 305 60 Soldiers and sailors 153 00 Comrtf .49969 15...... 185329 66 General road , 38786 21 Special schools i. 32109 41 By errors 22 City of Rainier 68 50 City of St. Helens . , 1284 48 Special road taxes 44352 63 By errors. 31 Last year's f sx TOTAL $208750 31 1606U8 W INCREASE $48060 35 The decrease in the county tax is $980.85. As there is a deficiency from last year amount ing to about $20,000, for which warrants are outstanding, the amount levied for current expenses is less by about $20,800 than last year's levy. A portion of the expense of the timber cruise and court house building fund was in last year's estimate. The increase in general road tax is $5,213, made necessary by the dilapidated condition of many of the bridges. The great burden of taxation, however, has been voted upon themselves by the people of the road and school districts in the special taxes. Special school taxes have been in creased $11,187.68 and special road taxes have been increased $24,163.18. The total amount available for roads and bridges during the current year is $83,138.74. It is an immense amount of money to raise by taxation for 1 oad purposes alone in a single year. What will the harvest be? If expended economically under wise super vision, the investment will be the best taxpay ers could possibly make. It is a great respon sibility for the county court and every super visor in the county, and it is to be hoped that they will co-operate heartily to produce good results. The taxpayers have done their part. Now it is up to the officers. z I 1 Wf I THERE ARE NONE SO BLIND 1 AS THOSE WHO WONT SEE! 5 The natural resources of Rainier excel all those of $ other points. The six miles of harbor, railroad and channel afford Z industries the opportunity for loading and unloading t from both cars and vessels without hauling. - It is the best protected harbor of any size in the State & if not in the West. It is a common shipping point, the freight rate to the $ East being the same as from Seattle and Portland. It is a perfect townsite and the soil is rich throughout the county. S There are ten billion feet of standing timber available $ for lumber in Columbia County. . f For fruit and dairying purposes the soil is unexcelled. S Industries will surely come here and a rapid rise in Z City Lots is as sure as the coming of another day. Note the number of laboring men who have become S prosperous through small investments in City Property. Now is the time to buy Rainier real estate as prices & will be steadily advanced.
