Mr. Uuick had hold of the reins and when Miss l'rescott gained the saddle the horse started tu luck and finally threw him self upon his haunches, striking Mr. Quick on the leg with his feet. The limb had been injured previously and the tendinis were stiff, but the blow tore them loose and iullictcd great pain. Take time to come and.be sure you will not regret it. John V. Caples, of Portland, who died hist Friday morning, was well known amopg the older residents of Columhia county. In 1878 he was district attorney of the district comprising Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas and Clatsop counties, and since that time has visited St. Helens many timea on legul business. He waa the recipieut of uniiiv political honors, having been n dele gate to the convention that nominated Lincoln for the presidency, a presidential elector in two campaigns, and United States Consul at Santiago, Chile, w,.
