Cuff. Coroner St. Helens SEPTEMBER 13. COLUMBIA'S EXHIBIT. Mr. W. J. Fullerton i at Salem this week, arranging Columbia County' ex hibit for the State Fair, which begins next Mondav.v From what we have seen of the grain, grasses, fruits and vege tables assembled at the court house it ii going to be a,jrery crediuble showing in bose lines, though not as complete as it should be. Lat year the sum of fXC was appropriated for this purpose. This year the sum of :XX) is appropriated, the compensation of the commissioner being the same, leaving the sum to be expended upon the exhibit just twice what it was last year. Clatsop County has appropri ated 1000 for an exhibit of its resources, and it is rather hard lines for Sir. Full erton, with the small sum at bis disposal to compete with counties so well provid ed with the sinews of war. Still it would not surprise o if Columbia was found to be well up toward the head of the column. If we do not succeed in at tracting favorable attention it will cer tainly not be the fault of ilr. Fullerton, He has worked hard and unceasingly, and the compensation allotted him would hardly pay livery hire fe-r the traveling he 1ms done in this county. He will be at Salem two week, and from personal experieme we know lliey will be two week of hard work and heavy expense. No doubt he will feel repaid if the exhibit proves a am-cese, and it is not too late lor our people to contribute. Everyone who can spare the time nr.d money should attend the State Fair, and if there I anything worth showing in Tour neighborhood take it with you, or if you cannot go, Ben J it by express, ad dressed to V.
