He purchased dynamite and a fuae and atarted to carry out hit threat, but evidently got too drunk to attend to buaineat and waa found by Miirnhu! Jean tleeping near the prcm- ioea. Judge Doan declined to inflict a eecond fine. Columbia County Logging Company, of Portland, will build a logging railroad from Deer Itland Into a body of timber they have been acquiring for some time. The company now own about a mile and a half of water frontage and have aafe tafo boomago grounds for millions of feet obtained. Seventy-pound tteol will bo used on the road. It it likely tho company will ultimately build a aaw mill to work up at least a portion of their holdingt. Fotwo ukowned The body of a drowned man waa found in the river about threo miles below Rainier Tues day morning by a fisherman named H. N. Drum. Coroner Cliff waa promptly notified, but found no evidence of vio lence, and therefore concluded not to put tho county to the expense of an in quest. The dead man waa about rorty yean of age and had about two weeks' growth of board. Ho waa dressed In a tult of dungarees and wor rubber hip boots. In ono pocket he had two dollars and fifty cents In silver, but there wat nothing on his person to aid m tut identification. He had been in the water a long time, and it it probable he wat the man who fell from the Nome City while she was loading" here about six weeks ago. The body waa taken to Rainier, where undertaker Lyman gave it decent burial at thocounty'a expense. - Later- Undertaker Eyraan, lo car ing for the body, discovered a belt up on the deceased containing $120 tewed in. At tho man who foil off the Nome City had a aimilar belt on it ia almoa certain that he is tho unfortunate who fell from the boat and waa drowned. A Lively Rouniwp Marshal Jesse had a lively time last Saturday evening j taking a man named Burnt to the city jaiL. .Burns and number of others from Apiary, including tne enter magistrate of that community, were having what is ! known as a "good time" in the old town. Burns was especially boisterous when requested to keep the peace and evinced a desiro to chew up tha mar shal and apit him out at the ears. Therefore Marshsl Jesse took him in, Burns is a husky citizen, and all the way to tho calaboose ho made the mar shal earn a piece of hia salary. Later on he wat taken before Judge Doan and fined $10, which was about half of what was comingl to him, Ha will understand, In the future, that Rainier'a marshal ia able to deliver the goods, Pon't forget that to-morrow night tho band boys give a dance at K. P. Hall. They are entitled to a full house, and we know they will get what't com ing to thorn. Rainier cannot afford to neglect thla opportunity to show its ap preciation of their enterprise. CLEAN UP-Marshal Jesse is serving a notice upon a pumbor of cititena of Rainier, calling upon them to abate nnriancea upon their premises. Thia ia pursuant to tho orders of the Board of Health, and tne nonces siaioiimi uiucm the orders are complied with the work will be done by the city and a Hen taken ffalnat the premises. We trust that there will be no letup In thia business aa some of the nuisances complained of are a disgrace to the town. . , "i " 1 11 " 1 , ,, , , ... Taints, Etc., ' Groceries. Etc,, Feed, Etc. There is many a min't life that's been ruined for the want of a a few hundred dollars. Now ian't it queer, you know thia it true you'd give thia same advice to your beat friend, and yet you may be one of the many thousands who, if your par were lo stop tomorrow, wouldn't have a cent to live on. But you don't simply want to protect yourncK agaiaat the Riiny Day. Thia ia tlie Spring Time. Spring Time when a man ought to start life all over Ought to start growing right. Did you know that 1.5 per cent of all men over DO years old are either d. pendent upon the daily earn ngs of their children for support ? Now you doo't want to be one 1 - . of the 05 per cent, so yo.i have to etart aaving. The veiy first thing to do is to open an account with u, Yi.i cm open with one dollar or n ore but don't wait till you save more, If you only have the dollar, open the account witu the dollar.
