Lvtlc, representing the Pacific Railway and Navigation Co., was in the city on Tuewlay ol last week, to preseut the road'a propoition, which is, that they will accept our ofler to guorantee me right-of-way to Vernonia, provided, how ever, that we present with the contract the bond for the deeds to the ngnt ot way. The contract has been signed bv twenty of our citizens, but so fur only seven ol the individual owners ol lands through which the road Is lo pats, have signed tbe bonds for deed, and we un derstand that twenty one have not yei signed. The director of the road want the larger portion on tbe other side be fore they will accept. Our railroad com mittee had a meeting last Saturday to consider the matter, and after discussing It in all its phase decided to appoint a special committee to see all who have not signed, get signatures ol those who have already eold they will donate the right-of-way and to estimate what they think is a urt and proper claim for dauinges to those who will not sign, inane a acnuiie ,i,l final offer nnd thus to settle tbe matter so far as tbe committee U con cerned. Tbe road want to know im mediately, for if we do come up to our own proposition in a business way, Mr. Lytle says they will be compelled to go to the ocean by the Salmonberry route. Judson Weed and Louis Seigert were ap pointed on tbe committee and they ex pect to begin work within a lew days, and will push It to a finish, to that the geuerol committee may report and turn over tbe contract and bond to tbe road.
