Ir the investigation continue much longer It can never be said that the roast of beef tu not well done. Gutbiuii Corn's tent show will be the first on to take the road thia ma eon, and therefore the first to come to grief. . ' Ir Columbia county orchardists would raise more winter applet of good ship ping yariety they could always find a market for the product. IiOooeno camps and wood camps in Columbia county continue to employ aombers of men. In fact work is plen tiful for all who really seek it. As experiment with a new kind of gun-powder resulted in wrecking a lab- ratory belonging to the French govern merit. Of course the new explosive is i . success. CaLlFOBiru's new law requiring news paper communications to be signed by the writer is a good thing. At last "Old Subscriber" is to be unmasked, and "Pro Bono Publico" made to disclose his real Ir existing circumstances can be de pended apon as indicating anything, prosperity has struck Columbia county. Ask the sheriff how tax collections com pare thia year with those of previous years since he bas been the collector. Thi question of why W. J, Bryan united with the Presbyterian rather than (he Baptist or Christian church, has been qnite freely debated. May be it . was because he was unwilling to -rink from public gase long enough to be im mersed. Hxu is a puzzle picture: William J. Bryan is in favor of free silver and ap posed to expansion. Pick Croker is op posed to free silver and is favor of ex pansion. Grover Cleveland is opposed to both expansion and free silver. Find the democrat. Thc letter we published last week from the state treasurer to the county treasurer acknowledging the receipt of the state tax in full was a real neat compliment and a pretty tribute to our county's ability to liquidate its debts. It meant all it said. It conveyed no hidden meaning: Columbia county is , enjoying prosperity. Tux season of the year is approaching when all sorts of fake peddlers and bunco teerers will be broadcast throughout the land. Our people are now sufficiently educated so they should no longer trust itinerants going through the country taking orders and receiving money in advance. A person who is so credulous deserves being bilked once in a while as a lesson.
