It wat perhaps reasonable to name few towns, and vessels, and ttreett sifter Dewey, but the rage for giving thintra the name "Dewey " baa passed the absurd and reached the nauseating stage. We havs "Dewey" eorseta, and niimrettas. and Barters, and trusses, and nuke mtdioines. and ealvse, and dogs, and cats, and chickens without umber. Half the mangy, flea-infested ourt, and scrawny, oaterwauliug cats in the country are named "Dewey," j and the rest are called Sampson, Schley, or Uobson. The hop-nlcklng sesson in the Wil lamette valley is near at hand. Pick ing will begin between September 5th and 10th, and in some instances a trifle later. The ylold this year will equal that of 1897 In quantity, but the Indi cation now are that the quality will , be more in accordance with that of 1890, which wat eiceptionally good, being about 90 per cent choice.
