Last Sunday was a rod-letter day in
Soappoose. It waa the occasion of the
dedication of the beautiful new Meth
odist Episcopal chapel. Dr. W. H.
Uiff, of Portland wat present and con
ducted the service. At the opening
of the services a debt of two hundred
and fifty dollars was hanging over the
little chapel, but at the olose every dol
lar had been provided tor in good re
liable subscriptions. Then Dr. Iliff
named the edifice "una M. E. Ubapai,
and, atsisted by Beta. M. Burlingame
and G. G. Haley, formally dedicated it

Killed by a Falling- Tree.
Ktwt reached Astoria Wedaaeday after
noon of a fatal accident at Borg land's log
ging camp, near Clifton. Hiram Silvas, a
logger, waa struck by a falling tree, and
frightfully crushed. Death was Instantan
eous. Coroner Pohl wa telegraphed for,
and left tor the teen of the accident. The
body will be brought there.

Clatsop county's Brat flouring mill will
bs in operation In a few days. It has been
built by several progressive Nsbalem farm
ers, and is situated on the Big Flehhawk
river, foer miles from Medley. It has a
capacity of St barrels per day, and It oper
ated by water power. T&e volume ot water
applied will be tufflolent to run the mill at
all seasons of the year. This Is bnt one of
the many co-operative plans which arc on
foot there.
