Moat people in this country have no doubt long ago come to the conclusion that work baa been suspended upon tbe Panama canal, bat this is not true. Notwith standing the great scandal that were brought to light a few years ago, tbe company continues at work, aeemingly wiib a view of cutting through the if-tbrnur. Tbe French company recent ly purchased some very heavy ma chinery from a firm in New York for the purpose of continuing work in hoisting and conveying stone and earth from tbe canaL The persistency with which the company continue to work would indicate that tbe projectors evi dently believe that at some time they may be able to cat through to the Pa cifio ocean. Meanwhile work has almost stopped on tbe Nicaragua canaL The company wbieb baa that work in charge is wait ing for backing from the United State government, but who can say when that backing is likely to be forthcom ing Another question which may be raised about the Panama canal in ease it look as if it were actually to be completed, is whether the United State : government would see such a highway on tbe American continent in the hands of a foreign corporation. There may be an international complication over it when tbe Frenchman sees the water of the Pacific in jright, Tha Lead villa Strike. Denver, Nov. 10. Tbe mine oper ators have not yet shown a disposition to make any concessions whatever, and they are preparing to import more miners from Missouri. There has de veloped, however, a strong opposition to the policy of furnishing a guard in order to enable the mine-owners to operate their properties and break up the miners' union, and it is believed tbe governor will soon be forced, by ' public opinion, to withdraw at least a portion of the troops. Traaaltaf Callla Aalborlsed. Milwaukee, Nov. 9.
