A neglected nerve pain may became so chronic as to cripple, and this ia otten ths rase with Sciatica. If taken in time, it ia easily sub dued, like other nervapaina, and vigor and health are restored. Thousand ot cases bave been treated by the uae of 8L Jacobs Oil, with the result of a prompt and per manent cure and restoration to health of the affected nerve. People cannot be too careful with their nerves. There ia too much to suffer to admit of foolish neglect, and the simple thing of getting a bottle of tit. Jacobs Oil and applying promptly may save years of misery and perhaps years ot crippled condition. Tare Keataaalaaa Eater late a Qeaar Can- tea. ' One of the most novel and interest ing events in sporting circlet which hat occurred in Lexington for tome time waa tbe banana eating contest between two prominent young men of the city, Messrs. Garrett Welsh and John Luby, which took place in the fruit stand of Mr. Fngasai. on Main street, the other night The contest waa the outgrowth, of some remarks made some time pre- vloua on the capacity of the contestant. Each had friends present wbo were backing them clear off the boards. The summary is at follow! : At tbe drop of the flag Starter Dan Crow tent them off to a good start, with Welsh a half banana in the lead. He led Luby to the quarter, where he waa overtaken. At the half Luby had 88 ban anus to his credit, with Welsh a close second with 86. Here Welsh went oat after the mon ey, and at tbe three-quarter it was Welsh by eight bananas, bat Welsh was showing signs of distress. Turning into the stretch, Lnby't jock ey, UcUark. went lor another atauc or bananas and tacceeded in nosing out Welsh in fast time. Time: Lnby, 64 bananas; Welsh, 61 bananas. Both ran a consistent race, and with a better Jockey than McGinn is, Welsh should bave won. Both were tent to the stable to rest up. They are entered for another stake race next week, and the betting on the event promises to be spirited. Lexington Herald. It waa tbe unexpected and the daring that "Amber" always did. "Amber" thought and "Amber' wrote. She had tbe oouage of ber con victions, and if tbe convictions were queer sometimes they were uttered just tbe tame, and the queerer the louder. And if "Amber" taw fit to change her convictions at any time the change was boldly chronicled in no uncertain tones. Her last words to me were striking, aa all ber wot da bad been. Children and Flowers, Wise and loving parents want their children to be educated to enjoy what la beautiful In art, in literature and In nature.- They may question the Influ ence of luxurious liviug. may fear the effect of elegaut surroundings as Induc ing Indolence of mind and body or as fostering a spirit of discontent, but tbey csnnot think that a life of "plain living and high thinking" would ex clude pleasure in a sunny sky or a mod est flower. The little garden where the children are allowed to have a plot of tbelr own affords one of tbe most inno cent delights of childhood. The plant ing, the weeding, the watching for the first blossom, keep the whole family Interested, and is the most thoroughly natural and healthful pleasure a chili) can have. There Is In all this a sense of ownership which Is as unselfish at possession can be, for connected with it Is usually tbe desire to give away the first fruits as an offering to friendship or charity. The flower lover is almost always the flower giver, and nothing Is sweeter tban to see a dear child bring to the fond mother tbe first blossom from "my own garden." Tbe best and surest way to shut out evil thoughts is to furnish themes for good and pure and beautiful thoughts; mind engaged in the attention to beautiful things in nature has no place for that which Is hateful and ugly, and we cannot overestimate tbe real value of flower culture as a part of children's education. I bave often wondered If the children we see stealing flowers do this entirely from mischief, or If some do not really love tbe blossoms they cannot have at home. If they had early been taught a real appreciation of flowers, they would Drobably more highly regard their neighbors rights In tbe matter. Wom ankind. A Dog's Remarkable Instinct.
