He will probably remain, in the city several days, r A prizefight took place in East Port land last Sunday, which resulted in the death of one of the parties. TIm contestants were two boys, Charlie Bell and Pearl Henderson, aged 16 and . 17, respectively. Boil is the son of Captain Mile Bell, the well-known ; teumoat man, and has beeu ior the past year employed in Nau drug store in the Hotel Portland building, and Henderson waa a bookbinder. The Dgbt was conducted under Marquis of Queensbnry rules, witnessed by a number of friends of both parties. In the twenty-seooud round the fight was awardod to Henderson on a claim of foul, being knocked dowu by his wily antagonist. But in hi victory there was .no consolation, for he never again rose, but died upon the spot In about a half an hour. The physician who was summoned gave it as his opinion that death was not caused by the blow, but probably of heart trouble. Bell was arrested and placed iu the oily jail to await further developments. Later The coroner's jury exonerated young Bell, finding that Henderson's death was caused from heart failure. The republican primary meeting in the various precinct will be held tomorrow. See call in another col umn. He has a good otitiit of pict'tres which he displays upon a screen by the aid of a stereoptican and so illiitsrates an historical lecture. He gave an exhibition in Conyers' hall on Fri day nlabt. and airain In Merrill's hall on Saturday night. Both performances were very creditable and interesting. A procession of gentlemen armed with brooms, pails and a mop were seen march ing down Nehalem avenue Friday, and upon inquiring the cause of this unusual demon stration it was learned that thev were headed for Merrill's hall with the Intention of scrubbing the same, as it had been charged that these same gentlemen, meet ing that hall in an organiaad capacity, had variagated the floor by an application of what is known in Dixie as " terbacer" juice, They found more spots on the floor than thev thought belonged to them, but applied their implements with vigor and water and made a very great improvement in the appearance of tne floor. Adam's clearing on the east bank of the Nehalem river, in section 8, township 4 north, range 4 west; thence in a southerly direction to a stake marked "K, where - the present traveled road known as the "Green Mountain" road, crosses the south liiM of section 3, township 3 north. range 4 weet, said road to be forty feet in width. In the matter of the establishment of a oounty rood beginning on the seotion line between sections 24 sad 25, township 5 north, range 3 west, where the oounty road known' as the (ieorge Fiohtel road intersects said section line: thenoe west to the east line of seotion 27, township 5 north, range 3 weet ; thence in a southwest course to and terminating at the in tersection of. the Nehalem and St. Helens road at or near what is known as Cow Camp on said 8U Helens and Nehalem road. In the matter of the establishment of a county road beginning at the east line of Front street, in the town of (loble, In section 12, township 6 north, range 2 west, Where the center line of Lake street, if extended easterly, would intersect said east line of Front street, at a stake marked "B thence in a southwesterly course to and ter minating at the intersection of the Niculai and Enterprise county road with the north and south section line between sections 13 and 14, t 6 n, r 2 w. at a stake marked "it." It appear ing to the court that said Viewers had met at the time and place appointed, accompanied by jl. a. .Little, a skilltui surveyor and after being duly sworn had viewed out, surveyed, marked and located a county road as above des cribed, it is therefore ordered that the said road shall be considered a public highway, and the supervisor of sxid road district is hereby authorized ' to open the same. In the matter of the appraisors re port of damages on the W. W. West road, running through the lands of John R.Walts; it appearing to the court that the viewers had met at the time and place appointed and by per sonal examinations had viewed said ronte and ascertained (how much less valuable said lands of the said John R. Watts Would be made by the open ing of said road and Having assessed the damages at the sum of 1350, ordered that the clerk draw a warrant on the county treasurer for the above amount in favor of John R. Watts, and that tho super visor in that district open the road which is hereby declared a publio high way. In the matter of the sheriff prepar ing the several elettion precincts for voting purposes, in Columbia county, Oregon ; it appearing to the court that under the law of the Australian ballot system, that it is necessary that the several election precincts shall be pre pared lor voting purposes Under said system. It is therefore now ordered and adjudged by the court that the sheriff proceed in accordance with section 06, of the election laws of Ore gon, and that be will proceed to erect the booths for voting purposes, which he will nnd delivered at each polling place, in the manner required under section 56, of the election laws of Ore gon. Iu the matter of the collection of county road taxes of the Northern Pacifio railroad company and the O. H. sit., and O. at C. company; it appearing to the court that the county road taxes due from the N. P. R. R. Co., and O. A C. Co., and U. K. fe N. Co., remaining due and unpaid it is here ordered by the court that Messrs. Moore & Cole. attorney at law, be and they are here by authorized and directed to pro ceed and endeavor to collect from each of the said companies, the to tal amount due Columbia county from them on account of the road tax of the several road districts in said county ; and that the said Moore & Cole be, and they are hereby allowed as full compensation for their said service, ten per cent, of the total amount collected, the said ten per cent, to be deducted and retained by Moore fc Cole out of the moneys so collected. In the matter of the cost bill of C. C. Lee, justice of the peace for Chits kanie precinct, State of Oregon vs. C. A. Howard, it is therefore now ordered that said cost bill be and the" same is allowed, and it is further ordered that the clerk draw warrants on the county treasurer for the several amounts named in said cost bill and in favor of the several persons therein named. In the matter of an appropriation 1 tor building a bridge across Tide creek and Spray creek in road district No. 5. It appearing to the court that it is ne cessary tnat a bridge be built across Tide creek and Spray creek in said district, it is ordered by the court that the sum of 165 dollars be aud the same is hereby appropriated out of the county funds of Columbia county, Oregon, for the building of said bridges, and it is further ordered that when said bridges have been completed and accepted by the court that the clerk draw warrant on tne treasurer in the said sum of $65 in payment of the same. In the matter of the resignation of W. W. West, justice of the peace of Scappoose precinct; ordered by the court that said resignation' be and the same i hereby accepted. In the matter of the appointment of a justice of the peace in and for Scap poose precinct, it i ordered and ad- i'udged by the court that J. B. Duncan ie and he is hereby appointed justice of tne peace in and lor ocappoose pre cinct, Columbia county, Oregon, to fill the unexpired term caused by the res ignation oi W. W. West. In the matter of the support of M, C. Humphrey, it appearing to the court that the said Humphrey had be come able to support himself and fam ily, it is ordered by the court that the order heretofore made, allowing the said Humphrey the sum of $10 per month for his support be and the same is hereby annulled and discontinued, In the matter of the Support of Mrs. Warruna; it appearing to the court that Mrs. Warruna has no means of support, it is ordered by the coOrt that the clerk draw a warrant on the county treasurer every two months in favor of E. W. Conyers in the sum of $30 for the support of the said Mrs. Warruna. In the matter of the support of John Huber and sister; it appearing to the court that heretofore there had been maoe an oraer or court allowing a county warrant to be drawn in favor of Henry Huber for the support of John Huber and sister, every two months, in the sum of $30, and the court finding that said John Huber had removed from Columbia county, it is ordered that the county clerk draw a warrant in the sum of $16 every two months in favor of Henry Huber on the oounty treasurer of Co lumbia county for the support of the sister of the said Henry Huber, and that the order heretofore made in this matter be and the same is hereby re voked and annulled. In the matter of the admission of Gattlieb Anliker to citizenship; it ap pearing to the court from the testi mony of C. H. Johns and E. G.
