Now is the time to put the last-minute de tails on costumes, stock up on as much candy (or alcohol) as possi ble and decide what to do. Because Halloween is on a Sunday this year, the whole weekend can be packed with fun things leading up to the big bang. For both Halloween lovers and haters, there are plenty of options. Friday has events happening all over town. At the University, there’s Friday Nite Flicks, sponsored by the UO Cul tural Forum, in PLC 180. Wizards, werewolves and witches are just some of the things you can see in “Harry Pot ter 3: The Prisoner of Azkaban.” Also that night from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Cultural Forum and the Housing Department are putting on an 80s dance at the EMU Fishbowl. Free food and mocktails are avail able, and a prize will be given out for best costume. Best of all, it’s free. Just across town at the WOW Hall, the Better Than You Battles II will be taking place. MCs will battle each other to see who is the best. The event begins at 8 p.m. and costs $10 at the door. Saturday night will be filled with parties, concerts and wild times to be had by all. There will be more rock music at Sam Bond’s Garage with a concert ti tled “Happy Halloween with Yeltsin, the Ovulators and Activator” at 9:30 p.m. The cost is $5. If salsa music sounds like more fun, check out Luna, where Eu gene-based Latin salsa band Caliente will be performing. The 11-piece ensemble includes two former members of the Cherry Pop pin’ Daddies and trumpet players Dana Heitman and Sean Flannery. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and will cost $8. After a long night of partying, help your mind heal before Sunday night’s rowdy celebrations by see ing the UO School of Music’s sym phony and choir perform J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat” and Wolfgang Mozart’s “C Minor Mass.” There’s no need to purchase any tickets for this Oct. 31 event held in the Silva Concert Hall at the Hult Center. The lobby opens at 2 p.m. Sunday and seating is first-come, first serve. Seats are expected to fill up quickly.
