Malt continued from page 1 Two notes of caution: It is never wise to drink quickly, even if one is “only conducting a test.” And we do not recommend mixing the leftovers from all the bottles to create a “zom bie.” It was outrageously awful. Captain Morgan’s Gold Overall: 1, Flavor: 2.8, Sweet ness: 4.2, Aftertaste: 2.2 This drink tasted like honey and cream soda, with a bad, clinging rum flavor. It had a spicy smell with a tangy sweetness and a bitter, alcoholic aftertaste. Buying this is being sold fool’s gold. Smirnoff Ice O: 2, F: 3, S: 3.2, A: 1.6 Think cherry cough drops. Now think in a bottle. We’re not sure who invented this flavor, but it smelled like cherry, tasted weak and medici nal, wasn’t sweet enough and thankfully had almost no aftertaste. After plunging our mouths into a vat of Vick’s, it was nice that the taste went away quickly. Stolichnaya Citrona O: 3, F: 4.4, S:3.8,A: 2.8 Citrona is a mystery. It smelled re markably like waffles. Then it had a bland, artificial citrus taste that was n’t too bad. It went down smoothly. But then the aftertaste hit — a tongue-coating like baking soda and tonic water. It made us think of dia per changing, for some reason. Bacardi Silver 0:4, F: 4, S: 5.4, A: 3 Silver starts with a fruity, over ripe-blackberry bouquet, but the smell didn’t last into the flavor. The taste was pretty bland, only some what fruity, and reminiscent of plas tic warm from the sun, or of old onions. It was very sweet, which made it taste a bit like generic lemon-lime sodas, but then the after taste finished the picture: light and clean, but like gin left out too long. * Mike’s Hard Iced Tea O: 5, F: 6, S: 5, A: 3.6 Maybe iced tea is a bad flavor for malt beverages to mi mic. In general, they don’t do too well; they never taste real, and the aftertaste is usually nasty. Mike’s, however, has changed that. While it didn’t taste like iced tea, it certainly smelled like it. It did n’t taste as sweet as it smelled, either, but it was an acceptable blend of tea, sugar and perhaps lemongrass, with a short aftertaste. Kazi Lime O: 6, F: 6.8, S: 4, A: 5.7 Kazi is the only local beverage on Turn to Beverage, page 5 707 Willamette St 683-5160 (free parking in Rock-n-Rodeo Lot) FRIDAYS We pay you to party!
