With the level shift comes cer tain use restrictions, such as ab solutely no vehicular travel off of forest development roads — roads constructed for automotive use. Other restrictions include no campfires, no smoking unless in enclosed vehicles on roads and no fireworks or any kind of pyrotech nic devices. Campfires are allowed in official campgrounds. The motivation for the level shift was lack of precipitation, Forest Service spokeswoman Patti Rodgers said. Use restrictions were not necessarily put in place because of existing fires in the Willamette National Forest, but rather, “to keep people out of ar eas where the potential for acci dental fires is high,” Rodgers said. Rodgers does not anticipate the danger level lowering until Oregon receives a large amount of rain. The amount needed will not likely pom down until early fall. Neighbors, however, had mixed feelings about the renovation.
