He views the office as a means to protect every citi zen’s basic rights and defend those rights against criminal activity. He said he has also worked to assist victims of domestic violence and establish a auto mated telephone notification system to update crime victims on the trials of suspects in their cases. Before being elected attorney general, Myers served as a state representative and speaker of the house, held a chair on the Oregon Criminal Justice Council and served on the Oregon Law Commission. Bill Bradbury Democrat Bradbury is the current secretary of state. He has also served as execu tive director of For the Sake of Salmon, worked as a television jour nalist and owned a restaurant and video production company. His pri or governmental experience in cludes serving as State Representa tive [1981-1985], State Senator [1985-1995], Senate majority leader [1987-1992] and Sen ate president [1993-1995], Bradbury presided over the nation’s first vote-by-mail pri mary election, which saw the highest voter turnout since 1988. Bradbury said he would ensure tax dollars are not wasted, protect Oregon’s natural heritage and make the owners of the New Carissa pay for clean-up costs. Her pri or governmental experience in cludes serving as State Representa tive [1995-present], house majority leader [1997], Speaker of the House [1999-present]. Snodgrass has been involved with the community through the Mt. Hood Medical Foun dation and Habitat for Humanity. Snodgrass’s platform is investing in accountable schools by securing funding and requiring administrative and class room accountability. Marbet’s platform revolves around campaign finance reform, using in stant runoffs in elections to immedi ately determine winners and re drawing political voting districts to prevent gerrymandering. Marbet’s campaign finance reform plan would involve re ducing or banning corporations’ funds to finance cam paigns, and has said that the 23 percent of registered Inde pendent voters in Oregon are disillusioned with the amount of corporate money in political campaigns, contact: (503)771-7254, www.marbet.org E.J. (Ed) Pole, II Libertarian Pole has been an electronics engi neer at Intel Corp. since 1996, worked at IBM for 30 years and was a member of the Apollo 11 launch team. He has no prior governmental experience. Pole has said that he would support campaign finance reform and end tax support for candidates and parties. Pole would also end tax-funded political primaries, and has said that he would protect the Oregon initiative process. He has said he would redraw voter districts to oppose partisan politics.
