Skye, a traditional Irish folk band, will play at the seventh annual St. Patrick’s Day Irish Pub Night on Tuesday, March 17. "Kila is a dance show and Skye is more of a sit-down show, “said Bob Fennessy, pub licist for the Community Center for the Performing Arts. “We are extremely impressed with Kila — their CD is exciting and origi nal,” he said. WOW Hall was able to book Kila for the Eugene show be cause the band is in the United States headlining the San Fran cisco Celtic Festival, which will be broadcast on National Public Radio. Kila is touring the United States in support of its second record “Tog e go bog e.” The al bum has gone gold in Ireland and has been critically ac claimed worldwide. Folk Roots magazine has called Kila’s sound “wild, com pulsive, Celtic Dance Music.” Sarah McQuaid of The Living Tradition magazine in the U.K. wrote, “Kila have a forceful presence and reckless energy that are already a force to be reckoned with.” Two of Kila's members, Ro nan O’Snodaigh and Lance Hogan, have toured and record ed with Dead Can Dance, a pop ular new-age group. The Dublin band’s mostly instrumental Gaelic dance music uses electric and acoustic guitars, fiddle flute, mandolin, tin whistle, uil lean pipes and other traditional Irish instruments. For concert-goers whose tastes lean more toward the nostalgic ballad-and-beer style of Celtic music, Skye will also be playing at WOW Hall. KLCC Radio is welcoming the groups to WOW Hall in con junction with the Community Center for the Performing Arts. “We’re happy to welcome the bands and hope that people have a good time,” said Michael Canning, KLCC radio music di rector. KLCC is the only station in Eugene that has an entire show dedicated to Celtic music (Mist Covered Mountains, Sun days from 10 a.m. to noon).
