Baxter is referring to the Designated Driver Shuttle After hearing of the shuttle at his frater nity's chapter meeting. Applicants also are put through a *< reoning process at the Department of Motor Vehicles to ensure drivers have no major infractions The shuttle would not bo taking riders bar hop ping or to parties, and a list of people who abuse the shuttle for those purposes is made. Reed said. Mil! Washburn, co-director of the shuttle, said the shuttle would prove successful "even if we take one person off the street who shouldn't walk or drive home intoxicated." Environmental video collection started Jean M Bond f l?*& QftiQon OI trwwkl Th# institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISK) recently t)|M*ni*<l a library of 23? environ mental videos The ISK. founded in 1993. fos ters interdisciplinary applied research in areas of sustainabil ity, said ISK director John Bald win "We view the institute as a community service and research wing of the Environmental Stud ies Department," Baldwin said The video roller turn, which opened at the end of winter term, covers sustainability issues such as environmental conservation, pollution, popula tion growth and war According to Baldwin, the ISK video library is an offshoot of the North American Association for Environmental Education's international film festival. Bald win. n former president of NAAKE, along with l.vnn Lomax and Karen Froude-Jones, cu i hairs of the film festival, decid ed the 1SE would lie the reposi tory for the films shown at the annual festival. The library features a number of foreign language videos, pri marily in French and Spanish Thu Spanish collection is partic ularly strong because last year's film festival was in Cancun. Mexico. The library also includes 40-50 children's videos. One of the stipulations of the library is that the donated films cannot be shown for profit The films cun he chucked out by CTFs and faculty for education al purposes. Faculty in the Inter national Studies and Environ mental Studies programs are encouraged to visit the library. Although access is limited to faculty and staff, the library, which is run by volunteers, could be available to more peo ple if it received $5,000 to help pay administrative costs. A grant was written for the library last year but was turned down, Baldwin said, "If wo opened (the library) up to the entire community, we’d probably be swamped with requests," Baldwin said. ' Right now , we re just about where we want to be.” The 1SE video library is in 130 Hendricks and is open Monday and Wednesday from l to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a rn to 11 p.m. GTFs and fee ulty can also reserve a video or get more information about the library by calling .146-0675.
