I will respond to bis anguish. You would be climbing the wall The City Nightclub is one of the lew places of refuge for gays and les bians and the only one in the entire Pacific Northwest for gays and lesbians under 21, where they can get away from the ( (in stant presence of heterosexuali ty everywhere else in their lives — work, school, family, televi sion and the Oregon Daily Enter aid. If straight people coining into The City cannot understand gays and lesbians need at least one place where they can get away from it all, then those straights do not have the com passion. intelligence or under standing to appreciate the uniqueness of The City Night club and should just stay away. • A number of very fancy restaurants (the Kind that only employ male waiter* in tuxedos) have dress codes, requiring men to wear suits and ties The rea son. of course, is if their patrons < mm in wearing jeans and tank tops, the entire piss elegant atmosphere would ho destroyed The same with The City Nightt luh If you come into the club and there are horny boleros all over the plain making out. the gay atmosphere of the club is destroyed — and it was to expe rience that gay environment that brought you to the dub in the first place It is important to pro tect and conserve The City's environment • In Fontana's * olumn he mentioned the dub "is relative ly safe." One of the reasons y erv. very few problems ever oci ur at The City is because u is a gay dub.
