■ LETTERS Excited As a former ASUO intern and an incidental foe committee member, I know with intimate experience that most elected campus officials have little political expertise or concern for their constituents Their position is merely for resume padding Therefore, I am quite cx< ited by the fact that Damela Diaz, a Programs Finance Committee candidate, (itrmen Rubio, an IMS' board candi date, and Sven Orozco, a sena torial candidate', have chosen to run for offit « this year. Over the* last three years, 1 have seen them demonstrate a deep, progressive concern in improving tin* University For years they have been affec ting public policy as empowered students, they have boon active as directors and c, 'oers on hir ing committees, conference organizers, student panels and lobbyists, among other things 1 have little doubt they will con tinue to he instrumental in their elected positions Jo please support Rubio. I have withdrawn from the race for scat 2 and am running as a write-in candidate for scat I as a protest to the wav the elec lions are being gerrymandered and hei ause 1 have a strong his tory of advocate work for stu dent groups and students on campus. Students should have the right to vote for two i undidates out of the pool for seats 1 and 2, hut the Elections Board altered this right (officially) in the eleventh hour Candidates then had to arbitrarily file for an identical seat, 1 or 2. Mv peti tion to the Constitutional Court failed (although I have asked for a ret onsideration because they used faulty information in their opinion). I had that their leadership skills, expen ence and genuineness would be a wonderful asset to the I adversity The University needs to cre ate a student government that helps the students Presently, the student government serves only the elite clique that is involved with the ASUO I am tired of watching the elections each year, seeing the same peo ple get elected to different posi tions The ASUO will never change until we elm t new peo ple into the government Kantrowitz and Scott desire to make a difference in the University and I fuel that they deserve the chance to show the University what they tan and will do for the students As a “typical" student.
