Sosnow had to come hack in the decid ing set, being down a break to take the win in a tie breaker. Stanford utilized its strength In the distanc e events and was able to use some sur prising speed in the 400 meters to overpower Oregon. Fresno State and Idaho. The Ducks and the Cardinal each captured seven of the 17 events but Stanford's depth led to a sweep of the top two places in the 400. 800 and 1.500 meters to par* the Car dinal to 73 of their 187 points in five events from the 400 meters on up. Oregon's l»mna Carlson kept Stanford from swooping over)* distance event as situ contin ued her comeback by winning the 3.000 in a Pacific- to Con forenco moot qualifying time of 0:45.74. Her mark full just si* seconds shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying stan dard of 9:40 00.
