Thanks to the great play of freshman Allison Sos
now. the Oregon women's tennis team won all of
its matches against the visiting Portland Pilots on
Saturday at the Esslinger covered courts to improve
its season record to 9-1).
Competing at the No. 1 spot for the first time this
season, Sosnow wrapped up the Ducks' victory in
a grueling two-set decision over Portland’s Nicole
Burnham. Sosnow had to come hack in the decid
ing set, being down a break to take the win in a tie
breaker.
Normally playing at the No. :t or No. 4 spot for
the Ducks, Sosnow was pushed to the top to give
senior Kara Yoshida, who played at the No. 4 posi
tion on Saturday, a break and a for-sure victory
"We moved her down to gel that win," Oregon
head coach Wade Judy said of his decision to switch
Yoshida and Sosnow "It was a nice boost of con
fidence for Kara to get a win down at three."

The Oregon women's track
and Reid team placed second
in a four-way meet at Stanford
over the weekend.
Stanford utilized its
strength In the distanc e events
and was able to use some sur
prising speed in the 400
meters to overpower Oregon.
Fresno State and Idaho.
The Ducks and the Cardinal
each captured seven of the 17
events but Stanford's depth
led to a sweep of the top two
places in the 400. 800 and
1.500 meters to par* the Car
dinal to 73 of their 187 points
in five events from the 400
meters on up.
