Mixed success in Montana for Ducks By Craig Harris Emerald Sports Reporter The Oregon women's basket ball team traveled to a land where visitors aren’t welcome as they experienced their first loss of the year. The Ducks became yet another victim to the I,ady Griz of Montana, who pushed their home record to 69-2 and lx*at the Ducks 67-55 in the cham pionship game of the Domino's Pizza Classic in Missoula. Mont. Oregon, 2-1. led 54-51 with 7:57 to play, but Montana outscored the Ducks 16-1, and sent Oregon on a scoring drought after tying the score at 55. The Ducks never saw the visitors scoreboard blink after the 6:37 mark. ‘‘We did not have that great of a game and the stats reflect that,” Oregon coach Elwin Heiny said. He wasn't kidding. Only one Oregon player, senior Sheila Sattiewhite, scored in double figures and the team shot a miserable 39 per cent from the floor. Adding to that, Oregon turned the hall over 17 times and standouts Jac quie Semeniuk and Stephanie Kasperski were limited to eight points apiece. "We had trouble executing our offense,” Semeniuk said. "I don't think they keyed on us though, our shots weren't open, and they were a tough and tall team. Every player on their star ting lineup was above six feet "We didn’t shoot well as a team and it could have been a combinalon of things, (for the loss) We felt a lot of pressure, we made turnovers, and we didn't execute.” Semeniuk said "Montana is tough. They have only lost two times in the last 71 contests It is also very tough to go in there and win They were ready for us and we did not look as good." Heiny said. "They have a good crowd and a good team I wish we had a chance to play them again Although the Ducks won't have another crack at the Ixilv Criz. Heiny said the trip may help the Ducks in the long run "We are a young team and we are still learning. We have a long way to go and we need to get back to reality We have a lot to work on." Heiny said. While Montana put the first dent in Oregon's fledgling season, the Ducks did post their second win Friday night, beating up on Oral Roberts University 85-64. Oregon blitzed to a 26-9 lead after the first seven minutes and cruised to a 43-24 lead at the half kasperski and Semeniuk led the Ducks in scoring, dropp ing in 16 apiece, kasperski add ed a career-high 15 rebounds in Happy Hour! 3$ Copies! 8Vi x 11 self-service 10-12 am & 4 6 pm Krazy Kats 8S4 E 13th umo PMiliM < uni sf NT ST AGNANT Oriental Buffet Lunch Downstairs & Try Our Dinner Upstairs Hours: Downstairs M Th II 00 7 00 I Sa 11 00 4 JC Closed Sundays Hours: Upstairs SuTh4J0 10 00 f Sa 500 10 JO S„„..08,HaH6 COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON SY’S PIZZA EXPIRES 12/14/87 IS OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK SERVING DELICIOUS NEW YORK PIZZA By the slice - or By the whole pizza Come down to SY'S and receive 1 FREE SODA and 10<t OFF ANY SLICE Choice ot regular crusl or Deep Dish Sicilian SY S PIZZA • 1211 Alder on Campus • 686 9598 Store Hours 11:30 to Midnight M Sat 3 30 to Midnight Sunday COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON COUPON only 28 minutes because Ifeiny flooded the court with reserves in the first half The Ducks continued to plav run-and gun in the sei ond half scoring 42 points and shooting 48 percent for the night The on ly sore spot for the Dm ks < ame in the turnover category.
