Although many car rental agencies support Pape’s tax ex emption. Brooks does not. She said she believes the exemption on rentals that cost $20 or less will hurt her ugency more than others because Ford rents out newer and more expensive vehicles. "What's going to happen is people are going to look for less expensive vehicles because of the fact that they 're not going to be taxed on anything less than $20 a day,” she said. “There’s a good probability thut as the rates rise that people will just do without." Pape said. Graphic by Lon»ln« Kath Brooks agreed. "Now 9 per cent is a heck of a lot more than the present tax — it’s even more than the (California sales tax." she said. Brooks said it is “ridiculous" to support park maintenance with this tax. "I think they need to come up with a park-user fee." she said. "I'd be more than happy to pay to use the park system." She added that even if the ma jority of her business came from tourists, she wouldn’t want to tax them so much The commissioners con sidered funding the parks system with other types of revenue sources, such as a restaurant tax. a business tax and a real property transfer tax. ”1 would say that there are no more than a half-dozen agencies that are affected, and yes. there's a little grumbling."
