Letters Symptoms The utopian university com munity has generated plans for world peace for years, yet they are like a doctor that treats symptoms and not the disease. One hears the blame put on things or systems rather than a corrupt man. The crowds gather, the it ching ears are tickled, and the intellectuals gloat at their popularity. The war outside the utopia rages on. however the disease is alive and well. For example, we are told that nuclear disarmament will pro duce peace. Yet conventional weapons have killed millions since 1945. Even with complete disarmament, nature would provide sticks and stones to break our bones, and nasty word exchanges would incite war. The same old problem would exist, since it rests within man. “Peace 1 leave with you; my peace I give you. 1 do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.” Jesus Christ spoke of a plan for world peace in a war-torn world without modern weapons. He pointed not at things, systems or govern ments, but at our corrupt hearts. His solution: “He will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in Jesus.” Dropping weapons is not enough — man must drop his old self and surrender his life to Christ, who gave His life for all men. The first step toward world peace, then, is with you. Brandon Shepard Student Propaganda? In the month of February, T.V. viewers will be offered a film “Amerika,” which depicts the rape and brutalization of American society, the murder of congressmen, and the burning of the Capitol by the Soviets. It is presented in a mean documentary fashion, as if it is already an accomplished fact for the future. What is incredi ble is that we are asked to believe that the United States, with its Army, Navy and Air c 0 p 1 E s 3* All Day Every Day Mon.-Fri. 8:30-8:00pm Sal. 10-6pm Print America 519 E. 13th 485-1940 Force, suddenly develops paralysis, and without any fight or resistance, permits the Soviets to take us over—with the IJ.N. acting as a Soviet dupe. If the U.S.S.R. produced a film, which depicted the murder and brutalization of the soviet citizenry, and the pillage of their government, by the United States, could we believe the film’s intent was to create goodwill and trust towards us—or paranoia? Patently “Amerika” is a film intended to poison relations between the powers, when arms control talks are in progress. It can only breed apprehension and distrust for both sides. The film intimates that to desire peace is unrealistic and derives solely from Communist sponsorship, but never as a desire from the heart to live out ones life, that the peace move ment is a curse to be destroyed, and viewed with greater fear and apprehension than the pro spect of an Karth reduced to a charred sphere. Perhaps it is time to amend the Bible to read “Blessed not are the peacemakers, for they art; traitorous”. Those viewers who may find “Amerika” entertaining would probably view the “Chainsaw Massacres” as a delight. I.ouis S.
