Mysterious 'Bedroom Window' forgoes laughs for real suspense Actor Steve Guttenberg has kept his audiences entertained in past movies, most of which are comedies, by doing some particularly bizarre and hilarious things. Included in his repertoire of the strange and funny is everything from having his fiancee pass a football test before marrying him (“Diner”) Review by Kevin bong to making love to a beautiful ex traterrestrial in "Cocoon.” But in his latest movie, we find Steve Guttenberg looking through more serious eyes. Known more popularly by moviegoers as the anti authoritarian prankster Carey Mahoney in the movie "Police Academy," Guttenberg now trades a spoonful of humor for a spoonful of seriousness in the newly released romantic thriller. "The Bedroom Win dow.” This sidestep from com edy to more serious acting suits him well, too. In “The Bedroom Window,” Guttenberg stars as Terry I,ambert, a flashy young ar chitect employed at a prestigious contracting com pany. where he is having an af fair with the boss’s wife. Sylvia, played by Isabelle Huppert (“Sincerely Charlotte ”). The mystery begins one night while the lovers are together at Terry’s place and momentarily, w'hile all is quiet on the western front, a piercing scream is heard outside the second-story win dow. Sylvia reaches the win dow first and calls to Terry, who is making his way to the bathroom, while she alone witnesses an assault being made on a woman below (Elizabeth McGovern). But before Terry can finally reach the window, the suspect has disappeared from view, leaving Sylvia as chief witness to the crime. Sylvia is understandably doubtful as to which action she should take. But then it is quickly decided by Terry that he will cover for Sylvia, becoming an impromp tu witness, although he himself has actually witnessed nothing. She then preps him on the infor mation involved until he believes he's ready for the ques tions of the police. From this point forward. Terry’s false testimony to the police lures him further and fur ther into an entangled web of confusion, blunder, mystery and suspense.
