English prof given grant for research Donald S. Taylor, a University English professor, is among 97 scholars from all over the nation this year to be awarded a grant-in-aid for post-doctoral research from the American Council of Learned Societies His research will focus on the relevance of R. G. Colling wood's artistic and historical thought to literary history and criticism. Taylor, who earned his doctoral degree at the Universi ty of California. Berkeley, in 1950, came to the University in 1968. Before coming to Eugene, he was director of graduate students in English at the University of Washington In 1972, Taylor received a fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foun dation. Taylor used that fellow ship to work on a literary history of the 18th century English writer Tomas Chatterton. He did his reseach at Oxford University in England Taylor edited "The Complete Works Of Thomas Chatterton," published in 1971. Taylor has also been awarded a $2,500 University Faculty Re search Award this summer to study Collingwood's theories The American Council of Learned Societies' grants have been made available by dona tions from the Ford Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
