Heat, humidity spoil Duck chances NCAA points evade Oregon Louisiana wasn't kind to the Ducks Oregon's attempts to score and to claim a few elusive na tional titles at the NCAA track and field championships were thwarted as expected scorers failed to place and expected titles slipped away from them Baton Rouge's high humidity combined with the heat knocked the Ducks out of the races Friday. Alberto Salazar fin ished fourth in the 10,000 meters to a University of Texas El Paso trio, running 28:53 5 Salazar had to be doused with ice after the race to lower his body temperature Greg Erwin finished far back in the 10,000 The one-two-three finish by the UTEP athletes — Suleiman Nyambui, Michael Musyoki and Matthews Motshwarateu — in dicated things to come UTEP claimed its third NCAA straight outdoor championship with 70 points, followed by Southern Methodist with 57 and Tennes see with 50.
