University’s ‘Buried Child’ brings up memories Sam Shepard's play Buried Child opens on the university’s Robinson Theatre tomorrow night at 8 p.m. The story: When Vince (Michael Callahan) re turns home with his girlfriend Shelly (Deanna Du plechain), his bucolic memories of the Illinois farm are shattered by the reality of his eccentric grandparents, Dodge (Tyler Bass) and Halie (Bright Olson); his half-crazed father, Tilden (M.W. Mitchell); and his brutal uncle, Bradley (Martin Steiner). As Vince tries to instill his memories in the others, a darker family memory surfaces. University theater professor James Moy directs the play. Playdates are April 24, 25, 29-30 and May 1-2 at the theater in Villard Hall. Call the box office at 686-4191 for reserved tickets. “Student rush” tickets — get to symphony late Symphony Orchestra is in the final stages of selecting its first full time music director. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the third candidate, David Ramadanoff, will lead the orchestra through three concerts. Ramadanoff, who is presently Associate Conductor of the San Francisco Orchestra, has selected a program featuring Stravinsky's “Fireworks,” Mozart’s Symphony No. 34, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5. The per formance will take place in Beall Concert Hall at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $5, $6, and $7.50 for students and seniors, and $9.00. They are available at the Symphony box office, 115 West Seventh Avenue, 687-0020. Half-price “student rush” tickets will be sold on an available space basis ten minutes before the concert. The Eugene Symphony Orchestra String Trio performs the third and fourth in a series of chamber music concerts on Wednesday and Friday at the Citizen’s Bank downtown branch. The concerts are sponsored by Norm Thompson's and the Music Performance Trust Fund, and will run from 11:30 a m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free. Earthweek all-star jazz Earthweek’s been full of troubling and demanding programs and pictures and stories. now it's time for a celebration. Spnsored by the Survival Center, the Pharoah Sanders Group and Cam Newton come to the EMU Ballroom on campus tomorrow at 8 p.m. as a part of this celebration. Jazz buffs unite — tomorrow night for a mere $4.50 (university students) or $5.50 (general public), you can celebrate the earth. ‘Once upon a time Professional storyteller Cynthia Orr presents a work shop on the Art of Story telling at the EMU Craft Center Sunday from 10 a m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $8, and preregistration is required. Stop by the Craft Center or call 686-4361 for more in formation. Women, there’s a symposium in the making The 1981 Women’s Sym posium will be coming to the University campus May 19 to May 22. The symposium is a four day series of seminars, cultural events, and exper iential workshops, and is open to all people at the un iversity and in the surround ing communities. In conjunction with the Symposium, there will be an Art Exhibit to which all inter ested women artists should submit their works. Registra tion forms are available in the Women's Symposium Office, Suite 1, Ground Floor, EMU, University of Oregon. The forms must be returned by May 8. For more information, call 686-3724. Nagrin: Three days dancing Daniel Nagrin, of the country’s leading solo dancers, will teach classes, lecture and perform at the university’s dance depart ment for three days, May 1-3. All activities will be held at Dougherty Dance Theatre in Gerlinger Annex and are open to the public. On May 1 at 2.30 p.m. Nagrin will conduct a free question-and-answer period, and at 4.30 p.m. he will teach a technique and/or repertory class for intermediate advanced modern dancers. The class costs $3.50, with free admission to University Concert Dance Theatre Members. A master class for inter mediate dancers will be held on May 2 at 10:30 a.m. for $3.50, and at 8 p.m. a free jazz lecture-demonstration will be given. Nagrin will per form his internationally acclaimed solo concert at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 Tickets for the May 1-3 j performances, lectures and classes are available in advance at the University Dance Department in Ger linger Annex, Room 161, or li at the door.
