£jm Cultural Forum Salvadoran support March, rally set for April 18 Preparations are being made for an April 18 march and rally in Eugene against U S. intervention in El Salvador. More than 400 persons are expected to participate in the noon march that will conclude with a rally featuring a Salvadoran speaker and U S. Rep. Jim Weaver, D-Ore. The march is being organized by the April 18th Coalition, an organization of more than 40 political, labor, cultural and religious groups from the Eugene-Springfield area. The coalition was formed last month to demonstrate resistance to the Reagan Administration policy toward El Salvador. The coalition lists three principles: • No military or economic aid to the present government in El Salvador. • Self-determination for the Salvadoran people. • “Resources for human needs, not for war.” Among the coaliton’s sponsors and endorsers are Sen. Ted Kulongoski, D-Junction City; Rep. Margie Hendriksen, D-Eugene; city councilors Cynthia Wooten and Gretchen Miller and county commissioner Jerry Rust. Among the several organizations sponsoring or endorsing the coalition are Clergy and Laity Concerned, the Eugene Council for Human Rights in Latin America, the Lane County Citizens’ Party, Lane County Democratic Party and the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation. Planning for the march, rally and an evening multi-cultural program is currently underway. Information is available at 343-9130 and 343-4044. The April 18th Coalition has endorsed a march in Washington, D C., sponsored by the People’s Antiwar Mobilization scheduled for May 3. The group has predicted that 100,000 people will participate in the Washington march. U.S. role in war-torn country discussed in ‘teach-in ’ tonight The role of the U.S. government in war-torn El Salvador will be the subject of a ‘‘teach-in’' tonight at 7:30 in the EMU, room 167. The discussion, sponsored by the May Day Cultural Commit tee, will feature three University professors and a speaker for the Eugene Council for Human Rights in Latin America. Scheduled topics include the stake of U.S. business interests in El Salvador, the nature of the country’s current government and the role of the Catholic Church there. Teach-in coordinator Al Szymanski, a University sociology professor, says the event was prompted by a concern that “another Vietnam is in the making" in El Salvador. “If people were aware of the real conditions there, there would be very little support,” Szymanski says. Nationwide controversy recently arose over U.S. policy toward El Salvador when the Reagan Administration resumed economic and military support to the current government. Scheduled to speak at the teach-in are Val Burris, whom Szymanski calls a “progressive sociologist;” language professor Robert Jackson, who recently spent a year in Mexico learning about conditions in Latin America; and Juan Epple, a Chilean exile who recently joined the University faculty. /a.mu Fishbowl DELI located in the Fishbowl • Peppered Beef • Ham • Raft Salami • Pastrami (turkey) • Salami (turkey) • Ham Stick (turkey) • Ham (turkey) BREADS • Cracked Wheat • Onion Rolls • Light & Dark Rye • Wheat Berry CHEESES • Cheddar • Provalone • Swiss • Jack SALADS • Bean • Macaroni • Potato • Cole Slaw BAGELS Make your own sandwiches from a variety of meats and cheeses, salads available too.
