The auditions will begin at 8:30 a m. each day and are open to the public. A list of the Close winners will be posted in the music school after the four judges reach their decisions Saturday night. Selection of finalists was based on preliminary screening conducted by University music school faculty. Approximately $55,000 will be awarded in amounts of $1,000, $2,000 and $3,000 for full-time students of harp, voice, keyboard, all or chestral instruments, composi tion, music history or music education. The money came from personal contribu tions made by political science faculty members The only request from the depart ment was that the funds be spent for Library materials. "Funding for the Library seemed to be in short supply,” said Lawrence Pierce, department head. "Although the money contributed wasn't a large amount, it was a symbolic amount to show support." Other faculty and staff have contributed to the Library this year by working on the Blockbuster Barn Sale, entering the athletic department jog-a-thon and donating to the University Women's Club's Sponsor Your Books program.
