sports_._ Rabid Huskies put bite on Oregon, 102-91 Bob Fronk poured in 35 points, 23 of them in the second half, to lead the University of Washington to a 102-91 win over Oregon in a Pacific-10 Conference game Thursday night. The Huskies’ point produc tion marks only the fourth time th -y have gone over 100 points in a Pac-10 game and the first time they've topped the century mark against an Oregon team. Oregon’s record drops to 1-5 in the conference and 8-7 over all Washington is now 2-5 and 9-7, respectively. Mike Clark led the Ducks with a season-high 27 points. As a team, Oregon shot 44 percent from the floor. The Huskies shot a blazing 62 per cent. After holding a 40-38 lead at halftime, Oregon pushed ahead to lead 49-44. Washington then took control behind Fronk’s three field goals and, within four minutes, led 55-57. The Huskies never relinquished the lead. “We went to sleep for four minutes,” said a quiet Jim Han ey, Oregon’s coach. "Washing ton played 40 minutes, we played 36, and they won.” The Huskies stretched their lead to 12 points with about five minutes to go. Oregon's last chance came with a minute left, when Barry Walker scored a lay up and was fouled. He completed the three point play to cut the Husky ad vantage to 93-87. But then Washington's Andra Griffin was fouled by Clark while attempting a slam dunk and made one free throw. Oregon then went cold and couldn’t cash in any free throw attempts. Finally, John Grieg fouled UW’s Dan Caldwell with only 32 seconds left. Caldwell’s two free throws gave the Huskies a comfortable 96-87 margin. Later, two free throws by Fronk gave Washington it's 100 points. “Ninety-one points is an am ple amount to win a basketball game,” Haney said. “We did a miserable job at the defensive' end, which has been our strength all season." The Ducks, still languishing in the Pac-10 cellar, will travel to Pullman for a Saturday game against Washington State. "We re going to get in as many practices as we can before then so we can put in a good game,” Haney said. Women roar past UW, 99-70 Oregon’s 18th-ranked women’s basketball team roared to an early lead over the University of Washington Thursday, claiming a 99-70 vic tory over the Huskies in Seattle. Oregon had only 23 turnovers, 10 in the first half. Another part of the same story was told on the scoreboard. While the Huskies managed to earn 12 points with 11 minutes left in the half, 6-0 forward Bev Smith had 13 of Oregon's 33 points. Smith accumulated a game high 23 points, 15 in the first half. For the next 11 minutes the Huskies managed to stay even with the Ducks, scoring 16 points to Oregon’s 14, but it wasn’t enough to drastically narrow Oregon's 47-28 halftime lead. Oregon outrebounded the Huskies 32-24 in the first half and allowed the Husky high scorer, 5-9 freshman guard Ka ren Murray, only eight points of her 21 game total. Washington came back in the second half to score 42 points, but were unable to sneak through Oregon's press defense. Washington’s defense also allowed the Ducks to score 52 more points in the second half. Washington’s also lost three players who fouled out late in the game. Oregon outshot the Husky squad 50 percent from the floor to Washington’s 38.5 percent. Washington outshot the Ducks from the line, 64 percent to 57.5 percent Oregon’s 5-11 senior forward Debbie Adams, who is from Tacoma, finished the game with 18 points, shooting 81.8 percent from the floor.
